IP/IT Issues in FinTech

23 Mar 2017

3 Public CPD Points!

Please take note that the venue is at Raffles City Convention Centre, Level 4, Canning Room (80 Bras Basah Road, Singapore 189560)

FinTech is of strategic importance for a broad and diverse set of stakeholders. In particular, the promise of blockchain to streamline important, voluminous tasks is uniquely important to IP owners. It could provide an opportunity to IP owners to track and receive incremental payments that in the past were difficult to comprehend. It could also serve to minimise disputes in ways that the courts have not.

Blockchain patent applications have generated an unusual amount of publicity. Apart from concerns over a new patent war, blockchain has fueled other IP concerns such as data privacy. Furthermore, there are other practical challenges such as balancing the protection of IP with the desire to encourage industry-wide adoption. Where there may be so-called “network effects” from blockchain and other FinTech technologies, the timing for seeking to register and/or enforce IP rights is critical.

With blockchain poses to be a catalyst for new ways of doing business, and that IP rights will play a key role, this seminar is a must-attend for everyone in the IP/IT/FinTech sphere.
