Interested in operating a franchised business? Thinking of expanding your business by way of franchise into other regions? You may have thought through your business plans but have you considered the intellectual property (IP) aspects?
What IP is at the core of the franchise? In most cases, the main IP to be protected is the franchise’s trade marks – the symbol of the standards and the identity surrounding the business. It is surprising however, how often this asset is neglected in the rush to franchise.
Join us in this half-day practical master class which will focus on the importance of making plans ahead of the roll out of the franchise. The class will comprise of a lecture on the scope of protection offered by a trade mark registration. After the lecture, participants will go through a case study , and consider issues from both the franchisor’s and franchisee’s perspective to identify issues.
The course does not cover the basics of IP protection. It has been developed for participants who already have a foundation on IP protection, especially in relation to trade marks.
