"In 2004, I had the privilege of being awarded the IP Academy's first postgraduate scholarship. Through an LLM by research, I examined and made proposals on the implementation of competition law on dominant IP/IT undertakings. My topic coincided with the Academy's educational and research focus at that time. The scholarship therefore gave me access to attend a slew of conferences and roundtable discussions. These would otherwise have been either too costly, or open by invitation to only a select few. While they were educational, and very relevant to my work, I remember these events best for allowing me an unparalleled opportunity to speak directly, and glean the insights of, distinguished personalities in academia, the government, and the private sector over various conferences, meetings and luncheons. These in turn opened doors to worthy causes, such as providing research assistance to an international authority in the interface between IP and competition law, and writing for local and foreign law journals. Without exception, the opportunities offered by the IP Academy scholarship were invaluable in adding much depth and maturity to my work. It has also equipped me to contribute more meaningfully to the development of the law. "
